As we get deeper into the winter, it's important to be reminded to stay safe when driving in harsh conditions. Here are some important road safety tips to keep in mind while on the road.
1) Always Pre-trip
The pre-trip inspection is incredibly important. Never skip your pre-trip! You always want to make sure your vehicle is in good working condition before you drive it.
2) Regular vehicle maintenance
Performing regular maintenance on your truck is another preventative measure you should be taking. Get regular oil changes, brake pad changes, tire rotation, etc.
3) Stay alert
Don’t be a distracted driver! Stay off of your phone and focus intently on the road especially during inclement weather.
4) Brake at a safe distance
Remember, not only are you driving a much bigger vehicle than the ones around you, you're also carrying heavy loads which make it harder to stop at the last minute. Always give yourself plenty of room to brake in order to avoid a rear-end collision.
5) Watch your speed
Monitor your speed while driving. Not only to keep yourself from getting pulled over, but to keep you and those around you safe as well, especially in harsh weather conditions like snow, and freezing temperatures.
6) Wear your seat belt
This one should go without saying but I will say it anyway: Wear your seatbelt! For obvious reasons, you should be wearing your seatbelt at all times while operating your vehicle as it can prevent serious injury or even death in the event of an accident.
